We have been to quite a few presentation about MURs in our time but the MUR Magic presentation delivered by Patrick Leppard (link ), the Hampshire and Isle of Wight LPC Financial Officer to Southwest Hampshire LPC on the 12th of February 2009, was magical (excuse the pun)! Maybe if this was the discussion that was happening about 2 years ago when the MUR service was introduced, there might not have been a need for MUR Online! That said, we still have an important job to do...and paraphrasing the late Magnus Magnusson: We have started and so we'll finish. Two things about the day stuck out for us:
The contents: The contents were as meaty as they were relevant. Patrick describes a raft reasons why we need MURs and the patient was always at the centre of those reasons. There is also the issue of emerging benefits of MUR, notably the recent Asthma MUR project by Hampshire and Isle of Wight LPC which was published in the PJ ( link ). The session was interactive and everyone had a good go at making constructive contribution to the discussion...oh and that is the other point...
The contributions: The contributions was positive from everyone. 2 years ago, we might have 101 reasons why MUR will not work! It appears that the realisation that MUR is not an option but an essential part of what we have to do as pharmacist in the community (for the benefits of our patients) is beginning to dawn on us. Of cause, this is on the back of 2 years experience with MUR. We definitely picked up on some tips for MUR delivery which we are sure to implement in our practices.
Where is the M A G I C in MUR?
This is based on some original work by Mark Stone for Devon LPC which is a personalised action plan to consistently deliver high numbers of effective MURs. MAGIC is an acronym for Mission, Awareness, Go, Identify and Communicate. I believe this presentation will be available on the LPC website for anyone interested (link ). If you are an MUR Evangelist, you should be interested!
Patrick delivered the presentation with the confidence and panache of an MUR Evangelist. Maybe Mr Leppard should become an MUR Evangelist! This is our unashamed open invitation. Many thanks to Mr Leppard for a very good presentation. Three big cheers from MUR Online.
